In-Home Assistance

Financial Assistance

Leelanau County Senior Services offers an "Unmet Needs" emergency financial assistance program. To participate in this program, an individual's income must be at 200% of the poverty level or lower. Requests are honored for emergency situations and only after all other possibilities for assistance have been exhausted. 


Financial Assistance is also available for Heating and Utility Bills, Eyeglasses, Hearing Aids, Care Trak and Freedom Alert Emergency Pendants and for Dental Programs.   Please contact the Senior Services office for information on these assistance programs. Vouchers for Dining, Foot Care and Outdoor Home Chores

Please click on "Voucher Programs" on the menu to the left for information on vouchers that can be used for dining in restaurants around Leelanau County, vouchers for foot care and also for snow removal.

Miscellaneous Programs
  • Tax Preparation by trained AARP personnel during February, March and April. They do not prepare schedule C, D or E. Please click on the link below to print out a copy of the intake form that needs to be filled out and mailed to the LCSS office at 8527 E. Government Center Drive, Suite 106, Suttons Bay, MI 49682 in order to schedule and appointment.
  • Senior Project Fresh - through the collaboration of Leelanau County Senior Services, the Michigan Office of Services to Aging, and Michigan State University, Leelanau County Senior Services is offering free coupons for the purchase of "fresh, nutritious, unprepared, locally grown fruits and vegetables" from authorized farmer's markets and roadside stands to individuals 60 years and older who reside in Leelanau County.  They will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis during the period June 1, through September 30 and can be used through October 31.   The total household income cannot exceed $20,147 for a household of one, $27,214 for a household of two. 
  • Legal Services - Leelanau County Senior Services with the assistance of volunteer attorneys recruited by the Leelanau County Probate Court is offering legal services which include the preparation of Power of Attorneys, Medical Directives, and Last Will and Testaments.  Probate Judge Larry Nelson states that it is very important for individuals to take proactive steps in these areas of estate planning to ensure that a person's wishes are fulfilled.  If you are interested in obtaining such services, and meet the income eligibility of 200% of poverty level, please contact Leelanau County Senior Services to obtain more information on this program.
  • Laundry Project- Support is given to the Leelanau County Family Coordinating Council (LCFCC) for low income seniors who are unable to afford the expense of maintaining laundry services.  This program begins in September and runs through May of each year.  All laundry products will be provided.  Donations are also accepted to support the program.  For more information, please call 231-256-0222.  This program is another collaborative effort with other agencies.
