Leelanau County and the Solid Waste Council are pleased to announce that the Elmwood Township Recycling Site on E. Cherry Bend Rd., will soon change to smaller, more convenient recycling bins.

The new containers are red, and they are designed to be more user friendly for residents with ease of accessibility for the material that the residents drop off. The containers are designed in a more efficient way which allows the containers to be emptied on a scheduled basis, and also reduces the carbon footprint for the future.

These smaller, red containers will appear at the site in Elmwood Township starting the week of February 13.

Leelanau County households can still recycle the same materials with these red containers, such as: paper, newspaper, cardboard, plastics, tin/metal, and glass. All materials need to be clean, flattened and placed inside the containers. The sites are for household recycling ONLY – businesses need to contact local haulers to arrange for pickup.

Citizens are reminded that materials are NOT to be left on the ground at any site. If containers are full, do not unload materials – take them to another site or return on a different day. Materials NOT on the list on the side of the containers are NOT accepted. The use of the recycling containers is limited to households in Leelanau County. Please keep all recycling sites clean and attractive for the community.
