UPDATE - as of October 20, 2009 PUBLIC GATHERING ON SUGAR LOAF PRELIMINARY ENVIRONMENTAL STUDIES At 6:30 pm, on Tuesday, October 20, 2009, in the Cleveland Township Hall, a representative from AKT Peerless will review the preliminary results of their environmental studies on the Sugar Loaf properties, a project of the County's Brownfield Redevelopment Authority. There will be a time for public questions and comments
UPDATE - as of October 7, 2009 ENVIRONMENTAL PRELIMINARY RESULTS RELEASED -TWO SESSIONS The Brownfield Redevelopment Authority will be presented with a summary of the preliminary results of the environmental studies on the Sugar Loaf properties by AKT Peerless during the BRA's Tuesday October 20 meeting. The meeting will be held at the Elmwood Township Hall on Lincoln Road at 9:30 am. In addition, a public gathering for the release of the preliminary results will be held the evening of Tuesday October 20 at 6:30 pm in the Cleveland Township Hall at M-22 and County Road 669. A representative from AKT Peerless will review the results and next steps of the environmental investigation. Some time will be made for public questions and comment. Both of these sessions are open to the public.

UPDATE - as of July 31, 2009 RESULTS OF VISIONING SESSIONS TO BE RELEASED Tuesday, August 18, 2009 6:00 pm - Government Center Community Room
Results from the June 24 and June 25 Visioning Sessions for Sugar Loaf, and surrounding areas, will be released on Tuesday, August 18 at a session held in the Lower Level of the Government Center. This session will begin at 6 pm with representatives from Kansas State University TAB program, and from MSU, presenting the results and a short video clip from the final visioning session.
This event is also being held directly after an EPA Technical Assistance Workshop for Leelanau County. The workshop is from 3:00 pm to 5:30 pm in the lower level community room of the Government Center. If you wish to attend this EPA workshop, please RSVP with the County Planning Department at 231-256-9812. The workshop is free for Leelanau County Residents. Your input and time is very valuable and proves our community is very special. 2. Public Comment Period If you were unable to attend a visioning session, or if you have comments to provide, we are keeping the public comment period open through July 13, 2009. THE PUBLIC COMMENT PERIOD IS CLOSED 3. Next Steps of the Process With the input from the three sessions, and public comments, a report will be prepared by the TAB (Technical Assistance to Brownfields Communities) program of Kansas State University. The authors will be Lisa Szymecko and Dr. Sabine Martin, with renderings done by Professor Pat Crawford of Michigan State University. The report will be released in August and will form the basis for the Townships' Sub-Planning process. 4. The visioning sessions were supported through the EPA's TAB program and were funded through efforts of the Leelanau County Brownfield Redevelopment Authority (LCBRA), and its Environmental Consultants, to secure assistance for Cleveland and Centerville Townships.
