Since 1993, Leelanau County has administered housing programs for low and medium income families. With funds from the Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA) and other federal, state and local resources, funds have been used to renovate homes for eligible homeowners.
Applicants must be homeowner's that are principal residents in single family homes in Leelanau County. The household gross annual income must be at or below 80% of the Area Median Income (AMI). Loans are low interest or no interest, and may be deferred. Property taxes must be paid, and property insurance is required.
Loan amounts are determined by the cost of the work necessary to improve the property, with a maximum project cost of $40,000. Rehabilitation work can include such items as: septic systems, wells, windows & doors, siding, roofing, heating, electrical & plumbing, interior work, etc.
